Welcome to Encroach Chat! This is a real-time chat application where you can talk with other users just like the chat rooms of old.

Enter your desired username in the "Username" field in the toolbar. If left blank, you will appear as "Foo," because Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl, Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, Nirvana, etc.

Click the color box next to "Color" in the toolbar to choose a custom color for your username. This helps other users identify your messages. (Choose a color with clear contrast to the white background, otherwise, you'll look weirder than you already are!)

• Type your message in the text field at the bottom of the window
• Press Enter or click the "Send" button to send
• Messages can be up to 1000 characters long, because why not?

• Green dot: Connected to server
• Red dot: Disconnected - trying to reconnect
• Online count: Shows number of active users

• Enter - Send message
• Esc - Close this help window

• Can't send messages? Check if the status dot is green. If red, wait for reconnection.
• Messages not appearing? Try refreshing the page.
• Username not saving? Make sure cookies/localStorage are enabled in your browser.
• Offended by what a user said? If the message was ethical according most standards, then toughen up butter cup.
• Want to report a bug? Just spam what bug you're seeing in the chat, sooner or later I'll see it and, if I have the motivation, attempt to fix it.

Encroach Chat is a chat room website inspired by the chat rooms of old, as I have said before. This is a place where the internet can be raw. Interperate that any way you'd like. In this website, you don't have to worry about algorithms, AI slop, feeds, friend requests, blocking, reporting, dms (if you wanna dm someone, thats not my problem), thumbnails, endless gif libraries, ZIP file bombs, etc. This is a place to unpack, interact, and speak without a filter or supervision that shadow bans you. So, please enjoy this space in the midst of all the chaos of the current internet that is RAPIDLY dying due to bots and such.
